Sergio Ulhõa studied dance and theater in Rio de Janeiro (Arts Center of Laranjeiras) and at the university of Brasilia in Brazil. In 1985 he founded the 2 Ao Absurdo dance company and created several multimedia pieces.
Since 1992 Sergio is living and working in the Netherlands and has created several dance pieces.
In 1999 Sergio studied video at the Open Studio video center, followed by the workshop IMAGINE/ Interactive-Montage
by Sher Doruff / Nes Theaters in Amsterdam.
In 2003 he graduated at the Technology College (SAE) in Amsterdam.
Video works
Sergio Ulhõa combines video art, dance, and vee-jaying, focusing on the space, rhythm, detail and composition of all the three forms and their relation to each other within a shared visual universe.
His preference is for more loosely associative and poetic patterns of thoughts. Incorporating distinct dynamics, playing with the surrealistic idea of time, his abstract images in movement convey identity, behavior and states of altered consciousness. It's a series of introductions matters and agendas unfinished. Like memory it has gaps, amnesia, fragments of past, fractured present.
